The Discussion Forum is now ready for general use.
Please accept my apologies for the delay. (I've been busy with the process of
selling my house and buying another.)
This is your Forum. Please use it as you see fit. In the meantime, though,
let me offer some suggestions.
Possibilities include:
- Finding other Old Scarborians: The
message subject would be something like, "Does anyone know where Lobby Lud
is?"
If you know who Lobby Lud was, you're showing your age. In any case, you'll
be looking for a real person.
- Reminiscing: Not everyone wants to
reminisce. However, the turnout at all the Luncheons and Dinners would seem to
indicate that many of us do.
- Exploring School Staff History: For
example, did you know that H.W. (Joey) Marsden went to one of the Bluecoats
Schools? Do you know which one? Perhaps some of you know something about his
Oxford years, and of his teaching experience before he became our
longest-serving Headmaster. Frank (Billy) Binder's life and times are already
being explored by Michael Rines. Insights into the lives of other staff
members could make for very interesting reading and discussion.
- General Discussion: Any topic you
think might be of interest to other Old Scarborians is obviously fair game.
For those who have no experience with message boards, we'll eventually be
providing some comments on forum etiquette (which is a subset of what is
sometimes referred to as "netiquette"). We already have a Help page, although it
needs some more work.
Please note a couple of things:
- If you want to ensure that your message is properly formatted, with
properly separated paragraphs, please press the Enter
key TWICE at the end of each paragraph. If you don't, the message
will run together, as a single paragraph.
- Don't cause what is known as "thread
fragmentation." A "thread" is a dialogue, consisting of an initial
message, replies to that message, replies to replies, and so on. To preserve
continuity, you should click on Reply
(one of the links at the top of this page) to post a reply to an existing
message. If you click on Post
(at the top of this page or of the Contents page), you will start a
brand new thread, which may be confusing to others trying to follow the
dialogue.
If you have any questions about the Forum, just click on the bottle and ask
them. You may, of course, ask a question publicly, within the Discussion Forum
itself.
Enjoy yourselves,
Bill Potts, Webmaster
